Knotty Ash Primary School

Knotty Ash Primary School is a busy, friendly school and joined Lydiate Learning Trust in August 2024.

As a one-form entry school, the school is small enough to be a family. Everyone at Knotty Ash is very proud of the school’s ethos, which values respect and fun; relationships between staff and pupils are mutually supportive. At the heart of everything they do is a belief in our duty to develop the whole child. Academic expectations are high and staff strive to support each child to achieve their full academic potential. The school offers a broad curriculum which values investigation, curiosity and creativity.

There are many opportunities for children to grow as responsible and valuable citizens. Older students have opportunities to be play leaders and reading buddies for our younger pupils, as well as taking active roles in the life of the school e.g. school council, librarians and subject councils. Arts Weeks, Health & Sports Weeks and themed days empower children and cater for their individual talents and interests. Links within the local community (St John’s Church, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Hope University and Bright Park) further enrich opportunities for children and help develop well-rounded, confident and resilient young people.

The Deaf Resource Base is an important part of the school’s provision and has space for 19 deaf children. While each is an integral member of their mainstream class, expertise and facilities cater for their individual learning needs with specialist staff. Every child in school, from nursery upwards, learns to communicate in British Sign Language – a wonderful life-skill! We have a school signing choir and are also affiliated to the Liverpool Signing Choir.
